as long as it is working properly only once every year. It also depends on some factors, how big is the field, how many people live at the house, what the perc. of the ground is, etc. also, when it is pumped down you DO NOT haveto use any startup enzymes or anything else to get it working properly again. there are enough left over after pumping to get it working again.

It depends on how big your septic tank is and how many people live in your house. I cannot recall the size of mine, but I have lived here 3 years and have had it pumped twice. Part of that problem was a leak in the toilet. Anyway, you can tell a problem is happening if your drains start slowing down and the toilets don't flush good. Try flushing Rid X down the toilets once a month to help keep the "good" bacteria levels high. Bleach and other antibacterial household cleaners kill the "good" bacteria and can cause you to have to have it pumped more often. Just look for the warning signs I mentioned, so you don't end up with it backing up in your tub and on your floor!

Non Crude Response - it depends on the size of the tank and how much it's used (essentially how many people live in the house). Bacteria in the tank will break down most of the 'material' and you could easily get a few years or more, provided it was sized right.

Problem is we don't know the size of your tank, or what the local ground conditions are, is your area prone to flooding etc. If you are fortunate, you'll never have a problem...if you have a problem once, you'll probably keep having the problem. (Assuming something didn't physically break.) Talk to your neighbors and ask them if they've ever had any kinds of problems. That should tell you about the land if you're new to the area.

It depends!. If you use bleach in your laundry and anti-bacterial soap, more often. If you don't, than less often. Once a year is safe, once every other year less so, and every third year is asking for trouble.

Add enzymes ( you can get that at Home Depot ) or, in a pinch, pour a beer or two down the drain.
