I'm going on vacation and have no idea where the shut off valve is for my spigot, or the main shut off valve for the house. People can use my outdoor hose and I want to turn off access to the water before I leave. How do I do this?

It will be where they check your water meter--Mine is out in the field. lol So you should call your water company to make sure.

If you don't have a shut off valve inside the house for the outside hose then the only way is to shut the main water off to the whole house, that valve is by your water meter. Another way is find a lock for the outside valve, try your local hardware, these are made for people going on vacations.

Its in your basement if you have one. Go in the basement to the area where the spigot is and look for the copper pipe going out to the spigot, there will be a shut off valve very near there

If you live in a subdivision it's probably in your front yard. It is some times hard to see if the grass isn't mowed low. It is usually
a square metal piece in your yard and the top opens . In my subdivision we are ask to put in our own shut off valve up against the house. They say if we use theirs & break it we pay $300.00.
It cost near that amount to have it put in. Most haven't done it!
