It started beeping periodically so I assume the battery was low. I live in an apartment and have no ladder, but was able to get the battery out, just barely. But I can't reach it enough to get another one installed in it. Protection isn't a problem because there is another one in another room less than 10 feet away. The problem is that even though I removed the battery, the alarm is still doing the periodic beeping. I can't get a maintenance man until morning to put the new battery in. Any suggestions about why it's still beeping(with no battery) and how to silence it until morning?

It is probably also wired with electricity. You will need to go out and purchase a new battery if you want it to stop beeping.. Can you stand on a chair to put the new battery in?

If the battery just clips or slides in and you don't have to connect the connector on it try using a broom handle with some gum or double sided sticky tape or tape rolled over to stick on the end of the broom it just needs to hold it long enough for you to reach up and give a good push and lock it in. It should be a 9volt battery ?

It beeps because it's hardwired to electricity the battery is for when the power is out like in a storm etc.

Good luck.

Your smoke alarm is hard wired into the whole apartment building system. This is to insure that if your alarm truly goes off, the rest of the building will be alerted. Since you can't reach the alarm, there ain't nutting you can do about it.

What I would do, if I could reach the alarm, is pull it out from the box it is in, and disconnect the plug in thingy in the back. Since you can't reach your alarm, there ain't nutting you can do about it.

Maybe the smoke alarm that's less than 10 feet away needs a new battery too.

Eventually it will stop. But I would get a chair out and replace the battery any way. The residual charge is there.

It may be a wired detector though with battery backup in which case it will not stop until the battery is replaced.

The beep is telling you it's not functioning. Do you have non-swivel bar stool to stand on?
