I turned my watermelons while they were growing and now I don't have any cream color on them, and they aren't the variety that have stripes. This is my first year growing. What other ways can I tell if they are ripe? A week ago I thumped one and it sounded hollow, but it was still green inside. :(

Some of my biggest ones are still green while ones that started growing later were already picked and eaten. a couple were on there for weeks and rotted away without even starting to turn yellow!

I just moved into a foreclosure, it had been abandoned to almost 2 years. The shrubs and trees are all over grown. I never had to cut any trees back or shrubs at my apartment. What are the basic rules to follow when doing this? Can I just cut them as small as I want even if its just stubs left? Will it fill back out next year?

I am getting married in May and my colors are white, dark blue and yellow. I want my bouquet to have white flowers tied with dark blue ribbon and my bridesmaids flowers to be a different color (maybe whites and blues?) tied with a yellow ribbon. (their dresses are dark blue) I'm having the darndest time finding white flowers that could be in a hand tied bouquet that are not calla lilies or roses. Any suggestions?

What type of tomatoes produce the large, kind-a sweet tasting, red red tomatoes??? We planted two different kinds this year, and one kind harldy produces (the plants are huge, but only put forth about one or two tomatoes per plant) and then cherry tomatoes, which are very acidic to the taste. I need to know what type to plant to get lots of produce and the sweet yummy taste of home grown tomatoes. Also is it better to plant from seedlings or seeds?

I want to start composting, or at least try it out & see if it is something that I can get the other members of my household to participate with. I spoke to someone at a garden center and was recommended a plastic composting bin for $90. Can composting be done, at a very small scale, in a regular plastic container while we try it out to see if composting is for us? Any other advice for a beginner is also welcome. Thanks!

My poor tree has been hit by lightning 4 times in the last two months. I wanted to save it but this last storm made it impossible! If we cut it to the soil line-isn't there something we can put on the roots to take care of them?

Worms and beetles are crawling under the door!!!! What's a natural way to repel them and keep them outside? We are trying to get the landlord to put on correct weather stripping around the door asap. What products can you recommend that really work as far as bug killers?

I have this uneven area that's full of grass, weeds, stumps, rocks, and ferns,,, I would like to create a clean flat area that I can build raised beds for fruits and vegitables, also for a rose garden. What steps do I need to take? I am hoping that I don't have to bring in a heavy equipment to do this type of job. Can I simply cover the area with some landscaping fabrics and cover / flaten with dirts?
