During the winter months, the plant will become somewhat dormant, and utilize very little moisture. During this period watering should be minimal. Allow the soil to become completely dry before giving the plant a cup or two of water. During the summer months, the soil should be completely soaked, but then be allowed to dry again before re-watering. Self-Watering will prevent the soil from getting completly dry so it's not recommended.
Aloes have a shallow, spreading root system, so when it is time to repot choose a wide planter, rather than a deep one. Use a planter with a drainage hole, or provide a 1-2 inch layer of gravel in the bottom of the pot to ensure adequate drainage. Use a good commercial potting mix with extra perlite, granite grit, or coarse sand added. You may also use a packaged 'cacti mix' soil. Fertilize yearly, in the spring with a dilute (half strength), bloom type fertilizer (10-40-10).
Aloes are propagated by removing the offsets which are produced around the base of mature plants, when they are a couple inches tall (or larger).

Aloe is a very strong plant and will grow very well given good light and attention. I wouldn't put two aloes into an 8" pot as they can increase their growth quite quickly. And I wouldn't put them into a ceiling pot. You can use your aloe for burns and other things. I would put the aloe into a pot that you can reach and use, i.e. window sills or floor pots. I have never seen aloes with root rot so I'm not sure where you are coming from there but I suppose all things are possible and you are asking because you have had rot in your plants prior. Try what you want and see what happens. We all learn from these plants as we try to grow and use them. Hope this helps.

It never ceases to amaze me - people ask questions in this forum, and then threaten to "do this" or "do that".....you call yourself the "aloe-expert" yet ask a simple question like this. I shouldn't even answer it, but because I'm a nice person, I will. Aloe is a very hardy plant, and is difficult to kill. What you are describing will work, providing that the roots are able to get to some of the water and aren't over-watered. BTW - it's "ceiling" - not "seeling". Try spell check next time.

No, a self watering pot will allow it to get too much water. Aloe likes to have dry feet in between waterings!
