I have never heard of that or seen that. I grow onions, chives, and leeks all the time and my corn grows the same whether or not they are there.
Did someone claim incompatibility or is something not doing well in your garden? Corn is very picky because you need a massive block of it to get thorough pollination so unless you plant a lot you will get just a few kernels per cob and it will look pathetic - maybe that is your problem, not the onions.

While I was growing up, we had lots and lots of corn and onions, potatoes.....
They should be...Maybe its the soil you have, not enough sun?
Check with your local Home Depot or somewhere like that.
They should be able to answer your question completely.

Well, I don't know because none of my companion charts list corn and onions as being companions or antagonists. They should be fine together.
