Im about to do some planting and that this weekend.Im removing all the white rocks I have now around flowers and sitting area.. I want to replace it with Mulch...but im concerned about it being a litter box for cats...will it attract the cats or should i be okay? If it does is there something i can spray or sprinkle over the mulch, so it keeps them at bay, w/o hurting them or my 3 yr old son, if he gets ahold of it??
Thanks in advance...im talking about stray cats, I havent any animals!

A group in our apartment building is starting our first garden in a new, raised-bed plot (about 70 sq.ft.) with very sterile, sandy-loam soil. We have some donated steer manure to add, and we may get a few other amendments, but we have a very limited budget. We can get quite a lot of coffee grounds, potato peelings, apple peelings, and banana skins very quickly, but we do not have time to compost them (not this year!)

I have read that worms will eat cooked potatoes, but not raw potatoes. (Not that we have worms yet, but I'm hoping to get some.) If I cook the potato skins, shred everything up, and add some molasses to help the bacteria along, can we mix the resulting mess directly into the soil?

I need to know what to use, how to make it, and how to make it form. Do I weave it through or something? Do I trim it so it doesn't get overgrown?

I've been reading a few answers about planting from other Yahoo members. Several have mentioned to consider what zone you are in in order to determine what plants would do well in your area. Where do I go for more information?

I have always wanted to grow Wisteria on my Victorian wrap-around porch, but all the good planting spots are taken. However, there is a rarely-used sidewalk next to one side of my porch. Since taking up the sidewalk isn't an option, would it do well in a huge pot? The location is in full sun most of the day. I live in hardiness zone 6a, if this makes any difference.

Also, I'm looking for a Wisteria variety that has showy blooms, dense foliage and is highly fragrant. Any suggestions?

Kentucky had a bad freeze for days a couple of weeks ago and now most of our trees and shubs (which were planted 1 - 3 years ago) have dead leafs. We covered the flowers but didn't think about doing anything to protect trees and shubs. Will they survive and is there anything I can do to help them? Trimming? Fertilizer? More watering? Mouth to mouth? I would hate to have them die.
Thanks for your expert reply!

I'm having trouble with squirrels burying and planting stuff in my yard (someone keeps feeding them ears of corn and other stuff); the squirrels have been busy burying different things in my lawn all winter and the various plants are now sprouting up all over my lawn. Is there any pesticide that can be sprayed to kill these plants without harming the grass? Any other ideas? The are literally hundreds of sprouts and plucking them by hand will take forever and probably still not work totally.
