Our yard and garden are over 1 acre, I have tried the heavy weed killer, it just slows them down till the next year. Pulling up gets rid of only the large bulb - underneath are lots or baby bulbs. No weed killer I have tried has slowed them down.

Glysophate can kill the root bulb it will take a period of 5-6 weeks and you can kill (or exterminate) it.

It is poisonous but by two weeks or so of application it will lose it's poison (toxic).

Good luck!!!

Oh darn! The lawn will be hard enough, but in the garden (hopefully not vegetable garden!!!) as well???

Now this is wild onion and garlic and not nutsedge?? You should be able to smell the onion or garlic......so I'm not questioning too strongly.

Here's a website for eradication in the lawn...........in a vegetable garden your choices are severely restricted. I'd probably solarize with clear plastic down tight over moist soil and let the sun's heat cook them out.......probably is you'd have to repeat after turning the soil bringing up the babies from down low. If done over a month or so, you might get a good kill. Remember after solarizing the soil, the microorganisms have been toasted so compost is critical to bringing back the soil's living components.

If you any product containing Glysophate ( Round up made by Monsanto ) it will kill the root bulb but do it a couple of times over a period of 6 weeks and you should be able to eradicate it completely .

Note : Just remember that is it poisonous but will lose its toxicity within two weeks or so of application.

Good luck on the exterminating trail.

Try rock salt, spread around the entire area of problem growth. also, lay a tarp over the affected areas, so that they do not get sunlight.

However, these are great to have around for bug repellent., if you can get used to the smell.

just pull them out as you see them. they are a bulb--if you pull them out they can't reproduce.
I always plant onions & garlic in amongst my flower beds (& veggie garden too of course)--helps keep away leaf chewing bugs & when I need some onion or garlic I always have some
