I just inheritied 12 acres of land. I have never seen the land. I'm trying to picture in my mind just how big my new inheritance is!!Can you help me? If so, please provide a point of reference for me. For example, is it as big as a football field?; or will I be able to build a 3 bedroom home on it? I don't know much about land so I really need a point of reference.

Thanks.

I think the idea is a french drain, and how would it work if i dug it out at a decent slope, and after filling it in with rocks i put soil and sod back on top to cover it up. this is on the lawn and i dont want to see the rocks. Its not gonna be a huge drain, probably only 10-15 feet, just sloping down away from the house. I live in maine, and was wondering it the rocks would make their way up to the lawn eventually, if so how could i prevent that, and if it would drain at all or just fill in. I dont want to pay for pipes and stuff, and dont want to make too huge a project out of it.

These are leaves off of a beautiful climbing vine that I have on my side fence. Recently the leaves are turning brown and have this flaky dark substance on the main line in the center of the leaves. Some has moved out towards the center as you can see by the photos.
I would like to know what it is, how to treat it and prevent it.
I really would rather not cut the vine back, if it can be helped, as it is in flower and also is attached to a privacy fence.

Does anyone know of anything that I can put on our yard to either kill or run off ticks? It needs to be pet and child friendly.
Tonight I found a tick on my daughter (3 1/2) and I am sure that she must have gotten it off the dog. I am planning on going to the vet and getting something to keep them off the dogs - but we live on 16 acres and I don't think that will be enough to keep them off the kids, especially since the weather is getting nice and the kids will be playing outside alot.
I just need something to treat the area where the dogs go and the kids play. Thanks for all the help.

I would like to see a virtual image of my landscaping layout before I actually start digging. Does anyone know of a website that offers laying out your landscaping and ability to see what it is going to look like, besides www.hgtv.com.

The flowers seem to start out very light and get darker as they grow. There are many flowers in the clusters. It is about 1 ft tall now. I can't figure out what it is after looking online for 3 days now and want to know how to properly care for it.

My nice hibiscus plants that are growing next to my houswall are constantly getting black spots and are not growing right. It almost looks like burned spots or meldew. The plant does grow and the new leafs are nice and green. But after a while they turn light green and get all these dark spots and holes.

This "worm" appeared about 3 weeks ago, and each week there are more of them. They almost look like a worm that has been CUT in half, one end is flat well the other is more pointed. We thought they might be european crane fly larva, but these are an inch long? if you know what they are, how do i get rid of them ? I am beginning to feel like I am in a Horror movie!!

They have fruit now, though it is immature. Will it ripen before winter ?

I have 2 areas I have vegetable gardens in. One is fenced and one isn't. What would be my best choice to plant in the unfenced area? Does planting marigolds around the edge work to keep them out? I don't want to use poision because of my pets, but I shot 6 rabbits in one afternoon! They're thick.
What about windchimes or something? I sure hate to think of my garden going for a rabbit snack! Thanks!

if i am going to build a retaining wall with 3 sides,2 sides @ 4ft by 3ft and one side 22ft by 3ft high, with blocks that you get from lowes measuring 8"longx3"highx5"depth. 45 blocks i believe. how deep will the footer be, and do i need to lay sand and stone first, or can i just pour in a ready mix concrete to lay my wall on. i just don't want my wall to sink when i build it. cheers. here is the blocks i mean http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=82790-215-5701&lpage=none
