I live about 20° North of the equator and I just got a bird of paradise from California. My window faces West and I'd like to put it there but It gets WAY hot here in the summer (116° F last summer) but I can't put it in the back yard and I need to keep the monsoon in mind. Any ideas?

My 2 ½ year old dog has run a dirt path in my back yard along the fence line. He has killed all of the grass and monkey grass that grew there. It is now dirt and when it rains or we water he gets all muddy. What can I do or plant to circumvent this problem (without getting rid of the dog)? Thanks!

I just got a tractor water sprinkler from my grandma who passed and I'm really excited about using it, except for the simple fact I can't get it to work : (. I rolled the hose out and placed the tractor at the end of the hose and faced it to where it will follow it's own hose back to the hydrant. It keeps stalling out and the hose kinks killing the pressure? Any tricks/tips/hints? I am in a conundrum.

I have a large garden for a city lot (880 sq. ft.) and love tomatos. I want to experiment with 5 different cultivars this year -Romas, Early Girl, Better Boy, Red Currant, and Jellybean. Can I plant them near each other without having to worry about cross-pollination and strange results? All the varities are indeterminate except the Romas. Also, can I plan tomatillos in the same area as the tomatos?

My neighbor has an unusual orchard. He has five apple trees, five peach trees, five pear trees, five apricot trees, and five plum trees. The trees are planted in five rows of five trees each. Each row and each column has exactly one of each variety and so do both center diagonals.
How are the trees planted?
