So my brown thumb and I are going for take 2 on growing our own vegetables.
:)
I had a tiny bit of success last year and managed to grow some broccoli, a couple of zucchinis and 1 yellow squash.

My issue is this:
If my broccoli (or tomato or pepper) row is successful, I now have… what, maybe 2 weeks to eat 9 or so heads of broccoli before it goes bad?

Is there anything I can do to enjoy the vegetables of my labor for longer? I could probably freeze broccoli (could I?), but I can’t freeze tomatoes.

I work so hard, and I want to be able to enjoy the things I grow.

I will be installing a 48ft. polyhouse soon and growing perennnials from seed. This will protect the seedlings, but the month of april in northern michigan is too cold. I'm thinking of a couple of electric space heaters with thermostats set at 68-70 degrees.

I don't see them in the winter where I live (Michigan - Indiana border).
Not that I can remember anyway, but this year, as of 2-3 weeks ago, I've been seeing them and hearing them every day .

So who's got the scoop ?

I'm talking about the beige, hard, roundish, very tiny seeds that dominate a typical birdseed mix. What plant do they come from? Back when we used to have a bird feeder, some of the birdseed that fell to the ground began to sprout, but my mom got rid of the seedlings long before I could tell what type of plants they'd develop into.

Also, would the sprouts be edible for small animals like rats or hamsters? Certain rodent food mixes include birdseed, and I've seen them eat it, so I'm assuming they could eat the sprouts too?

Does anyone know where I can get FREE patterns, to make outfits for my geese? I know where to buy outfits, but I think it would be more fun, and a lot cheaper to make my own.

When my home was built 12 years ago, the builder planed three small Oaks in the front yard. Due to some erosion and lack of grass, one trees roots are exposed right where I want to create a paver walkway.

I can't build the walkway up because it is adjacent to the driveway and I want it to be level with the driveway (not a trip hazard).

Should I start cutting the roots so that I can lower the path? It seems that I'd need to get down 5" or so, to place a marle foundation for the pavers.

I think this would represent a tremendous amount of work! Are there any tools that would help? Could I kill the tree if I cut through some roots?

Thanks.

Has anyone ever seen NICE outdoor lighting (something like fairy lights or Xmas tree lights or lanterns) that is battery powered? Maybe using a torch battery or similar??? It is about 5 metres from my house to my gazebo - extension cords are ugly and are tricky with kids around.
