If your neighbors haven't complained, leave well enough alone. The pollen doesn't seem to be one that impacts you, the mess all recycles itself in the long run, and the tree keeps everyone cool in the shade and energy bills stay low!

My recommendation is to have the tree professionally trimmed (arborists, not grunts) every 3-5 years and stay attuned to any feedback from the neighbors.

I appreciate your dilemma , especially your concern for the fluff balls & the neighbourhood ,if you want to save the tree as well as prevent fluff balls, the only solution I can think of is to cut away the beans before they mature & spread their seed. This may be too much of a daunting task, but at least you would have saved yout tree.

I agree with Amy L. Also, the birds have got to love it. Your giving them a place to sit and they will probably use a lot of the fluff for building and lining their nests. Keep the tree and have it trimmed occasionally.

If you get the tree cut down you can always plant a different or more desireable kind of tree.

Consult a tree expert. There are sprays that can temporarily "sterilize" trees to keep them from seeding. I know that it works for Sweet Gum trees.. maybe it could for you as well.

Don't cut it down! You're not polluting the neighborhood. It's pollen not garbage. It would be a shame if you cut it down just because it's doing what trees naturally do.
