My maple tree is about 6 feet tall, I planted it this spring and it was going fine all summer, gave new brnaches and was fine. But it's September now and I am not sure if my tree is sick or it is just changing leaf color for the fall. The leaves are faded lime and some tiny yellow, brown spots cover them...the leaves are rough to touch...but not dry though...

IS ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT?

this flower used to be very popular, many years ago, it is tall, with dark green large leaves, and has a flower, usually red, that blooms slowly, up a stalk. I think this flower has a bulb. ?? Any idea ??

Our apartment has a TINY dirt area inside the back patio, it is in view of our living room, kitchen, and dining room. The area is 4' long and a little over a foot wide (deep) rectangular. The back and left sides are against a fence and the other two sides are surrounded by concrete. I want to use this small area to add some astetic value to the patio. Something pretty, that makes you want to spend time outside. I live in North Carolina, in zone 7 on both types of zoning charts. The area drains well as the opposite side of the back fence sloaps downward. I've thought about using the space to grow herbs, my roomate and I both like to cook. Maybe planting flowers, or something that would creep up the fence (I'm not sure how the landlord would feel about that one). And of course...we're on a budget. Any and all ideas are appreciated!

I live in Southern Ontario, Zone 5b and it gets fairly cold here in the winter. The rose in question is planted in a pot (I have nowhere to plant it in the garden, so that's out), fairly large-ish in size (the pot), I'd say, it's about 18 inches across (round) and about 12 inches deep. The only other option I have is to put it in the garage where it will not get much light and very little water. Will it die either way? It's a Sunrise Cupido rose. I like it a lot and would like to keep it. Bringing it into the house overwinter is not an option.

New to peonies, have one bush of double at my house. After it blooms and the flowers fall off, I get these pod like things, three to a cluster, where the flower was. I'm just wondering if I can plant these pods or if they are for the new flower to emerge. They don't bloom twice a year do they?

I recently moved into a new house and ants are a problem, big ants, not the little sugar ants. I have put out little killer traps (the kind they eat and take into their 'house') But I have a huge anthill, appx 2 feet tall. It's in a bunch of brush, so burning it is not an option. Any ideas?

We have found 50+ large and small diagonal holes in the lawn. We found them after two large cottonwood trees were cut.

1st time growing cherry toms. 3 plants in a grow bag with a cane each, lots of flowers then they just fell off. I watered and fed them and kept them in a mini plastic grenhouse, where did I go wrong. (they are the tall type not bush type)

I do not want to compost them as we have a compst bin and the cuttings would swap it.

I do not really want to leave on the grass lawn as the kids drag it into house! But open to persuasion!

Wonder if it is good to put on flower beds? Or does it just lead to grass weeds?

I'm thinking of collecting clippings up to end of October/season and then putting clipppings under a weed screen sheet, in a flower bed (will this improve the soil? does the grass heat up as it lies there? does this help plants over eary winter? Just a theory!)

And finally, putting the rest into a nearby flower bed that has poor soil. Does this improve the soil?

Suggestions welcomed!
