Without knowing what caused the wound, it is difficult. However, if the whole is not too large fill it with Elmers wood glue. If it is large, you can "paint" the glue on to the wound.

I don't think you can do anything about that, the tree is dying slowly and the bugs eat away at the tree on the inside thats why it hollow on the inside. The tree is already dying and there is nothing you can do...but ask for advice how to prevent this from happening in the future to your other trees. i would get the tree sawn down by ppl who can do this. Thats all I can tell you, cuz this is all i know.

First of all what kind of hole, and how much internal damage is there?
6 inches deep, so how wide is it?

Call your local Agriculture Department. They will be able to tell you how badly this is, causes and cures, if any.
