I have been ill all summer and my yard shows it. My flower beds are so bad that I have had three companies over for estimates to fix my flower beds and none of them "have time" to fix three 6 x 4 flower beds before fall. Two of the beds were in bad shape to begin with since I'm not much of a green thumb. I'd like to try though. I have every weed imaginable and they're all about 4 feet tall.

Where do I start to prepare my beds for fall so I can start a new in the spring? Does it help to know I live in Michigan?

I have two lilac bushes that I just planted this last spring. They are on different sides of my yard but are both having the same problem. The leaves have brown spots on them and the edges are all dry and dead looking. They also have lots of torn looking spots like something has been eating them. I looked for bugs under the leaves and didn't really see anything. I'm not sure why this is happening so I'd appreciate any ideas anyone might have on what this could be and how to stop it. I live in WI.

Fungus is like a sandy colored cauliflower consistency and it stretches about 2 feet. In the spring it drops off and comes back in the fall. Lanscaper said it means the tree is dying.

I've collected a lot of oak tree acorns and planted them expecting to have seedlings. So far, I've not had any of them sprout. (various times during the year). I've used both garden potting soils and yard dirt as the planting mediums. I've planted them deep and shallow, tops and bottoms down, and sideways but nothing sprouts. Should I freeze the acorns first to simulate winter? Thanks for any suggestions.

Tried putting amonia in balloons. inflating them and coating them with sardines. It gives them a start but does not discourage them from coming back, to continue breaking branches and making a mess. Not to mention eating the nuts that I so carefully nurtured over the years for myself friends and family.
Hope someone out there has a solution
Thanks

I was out in the yard weeding and noticed that this large, purplish shrub next to the house was looking a little overgrown. I'll try to describe it so hopefully somebody can identify it:

It's about 7-8 feet tall, with branches containing clusters of dark, small oval leaves which are about half an inch to an inch long. Much of the bush is just a dark, greenish color, but toward the top and outside branches it's a sort of pretty muted wine-purple. I thought it was a pretty shrub, but when I went to trim it, OUCH! It has pricklies all up and down the branches. I live in Michigan, so it's something that would grow there, if that helps.

Anybody know what this is? And should I consider getting rid of it; is this an undesirable-type plant? It seems a ***** to deal with and after trying to trim it I'm not sure I like it that much...

What is decent pay for cutting a middle sized yard, front and back? I get $10 for both now, takes me about 25 minutes to do total.

I just bought an aloe vera plant today that is overall pretty healthy, but looks like in the past week or so, random people in the plant section decided to rip some ends off. So, is there a specific way to trim it? or just cut below the "problem end" and it'll grow back?
Thank ya.

Burning the yard off is not an option, neither is tilling the entire yard, before everyone starts offering that advice. Is there another way to get rid of the stickers that are no longer on the plants. Over time, they die off and fall off the plants, making herbacides pointless. They are still there. How can i get rid of the ones that have already fallen? they are all over our yard.
