Tried putting amonia in balloons. inflating them and coating them with sardines. It gives them a start but does not discourage them from coming back, to continue breaking branches and making a mess. Not to mention eating the nuts that I so carefully nurtured over the years for myself friends and family.
Hope someone out there has a solution
Thanks

The smell of a dog was enough to keep the deer out of my rural garden - until the dog died. Other techniques you might try:
- hang tin pie plates from the branches.
- leave a radio playing outside all night. Tune it to hard rock.
- urine of any kind is often a deterrent. Pee in a bucket and dribble it around your trees.

Animals will get acclimated to most of your strategies eventually, but maybe they'll last long enough to harvest your nuts. The long-term and more expensive strategy woud be electric fencing, but the advantage is that it can be removed easily when no longer needed.

Bears...yipes!

Install an electric fence. Get wolf scent from a trappers store and sray around tree beyond drip line. Srrinkle bllod meal beyond drip line. If it rains will have to reapply. Also, try moth balls or extra hot cayenne pepper. (That;s blood meal) Or try them all at once and see what happens. Good luck..

try tying human hair from hair brushes into sacks made from the legs of panty hose and leaving them hanging around. It is a light method for the branches, and will smell like humans. If your bears like the smell of humans, you may have a larger problem. Or, you might try using a really sweaty shirt. (yuck) but worth it, maybe
