I'm going to purchase a miter saw and do not know the difference between the two "cuts". I'm installing
crown moulding using mostly inside miter cuts, and a couple of outside miter cuts.
I am going to install moulding on a cathedral ceiling in the future, would that project involve the compound cuts??

The walls in my home are pre-fab and have small strips every few feet (where the walls are pieced together). I want to paint over the "wallpaper" but unsure how to start. What will cover the paper and hold up nicely?

My cozy apartment is nice, but needs more book-shelving. I'm wondering about head-level shelves that I just fix onto wall studs? I'm marginally handy; is this project easy? Cheap?

We have what I guess you'd call a double-wide garage door (2 car garage, 1 door) and have been thinking about having an opener installed. In the middle of the garage, and consequently, in the middle of the door, we have a floor to ceiling support beam. It is approximately 8 inches from the spring for the door at the ceiling. Is it still possible to have an opener installed? I was doing some research and read that the opener should be position in the middle of the door.

Thanks for any advice!

I make silicon molds of my clay sculptures for casting in resin. Without an expensive vacuum chamber, it is a painstakingly slow process to make certain all the bubbles are out.

I've heard that you can use a pressure pot and a vacuum pump to make your own vacuum chamber and wonder if anyone has tried this and had good results?

I have no problem with building my own as opposed to spending a couple of grand to buy one but need some recommendations.

Currently I brush my clay bed and doll with silicon RTV then I pour from at least 36" to cover and pop bubbles as I see them. This does not always work!

*laughs

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I am doing the duct work for my new office space. I've got everything down except for the takeoff from the plenum and the cold air return. The furnace already has the plenum attached and has a 16" x 14" rectangular opening above the drop ceiling. I figured I would need to seal the opening with sheet metal, then cut the correct size into the sealed opening (9" for the flex duct), then insert a take-off collar into the opening and attach it from there. Is this accurate? Would I do the same for the cold air return that goes back into the furnace?

I'd like to build a raft for fishing in the summer. It needs to be very lightweight and able to support about 250 lbs. I was considering pvc pipe, but due to the price and weight i'm looking for an alternative.

My idea is to take under-the-bed storage containers and tie them down under a sheet of plywood. Then I would caulk it around the edges to seal it up. Can anyone tell me if this will work? Or if theirs any other alternatives?

Also, do you need a permit for a home made raft. I live in Illinois.

This pipe seems to have no function.

It comes up about 3 inches above the pavement and has a cap that allows air to go in and out - much like the top of a chimney.

My question is.... Why is there a pipe that comes off of my main drainage to the sewer, that leads outside my house that seems to serve no purpose?

Thanks!

Ive been looking for instructions online for a homemade compost bin, but ive only found actual instructions that use wooden pallets. which would work.. but not really what i had in mind. ive read about some people using buckets, or trash bins, but havnt found instructions for that. Also i need a better instructions of things to put in it.. i know you can put any kind of natural things in it.. like veggies and paper and grass and leaves.. but do you have to put certain amounts of each things? or will it all break down eventually. also how long before you get useable compost? like, if i start a pile now with leaves and our rabbits bedding (aspen chips) will it be useable by spring when i want to start my garden?
