I am slowly working on redoing my kitchen. I have had mixed answers when I ask people. Should I replace the counter top before I refinish the cabinets or visa versa, or does it even matter? Thanks for your help!

the first one has worked fine for 2 years. My house is 100 years old, and the one I just replaced has three wires coming out of the wall--red, white, green. The green was not hooked up, as I have no fan system (oil-fired boiler), just heat. I never turned off the power to hook up the new thermostat......when I installed it as instructed, I can't get the boiler to fire when I raise the temperature. The boiler still works--I can fire it with the other thermostat, but even when I switch the wires (which I had to try with the other one because they were not neatly color-coded), I can't get it to work. Please help!

Yesterday we got a wrecker service to pick up and deliver a patio floor for us. It was 8 foot by 20 feet. However we had to cut it in half to be able to carry it to the wreck truck. So now it is in two peices of 8 by 10. We had to take off the legs for it since we will need a differant size leg and we have the railing that goes around it and steps. How do we get this thing put back together to make a whole? Half of it weighs around 600 pounds! How to lift something to put it up when it is so heavy? Where do we start?
Thank's!

My new apartment had floor to ceiling aluminium framed windows. Obviously, at the moment it is a little like living in a "fishbowl"! I would like to hang some verticle blinds from the aluminium frames. How do I fix the blinds to the frames? Do I need to drill the frame and put plugs in? If so, what plugs and screws would you recommend?
Thanks in advance..

my father is an avid do-it-yourselfer. we are puting in hardwood floors in our house and he already put one room in and it is pretty good lookin! but he has bad judgement sometimes and there is really old linoleum under the old carpet and he wants to go directly over the linoleum without the felt insulator. this doesnt seem right WHAT DO YOU THINK?!

I've seen it in hotels, and I don't like overhead lights, so I want to hook my lamps up to the light switch on the wall.

im just replacing two light fixtures in my dining room with ceiling fan/light combos. The problem is arising with the switch on the wall which is the original from the 70's and is a combo on/off and dimmer. The first ceiling fan is somehow connected to the dimmer switch so the light is "sharing" power with the plain light at the other end of the ceiling. Will it all work itself out once I replace the ceiling light with the next ceiling fan?

I have white formica (I guess) cabinets. If anyone is familiar with Lowe's, they are the white Colonial brand Lowe's stocks. I am looking to possibly paint them. I know I need to sand them lightly and prime them. Latex is easier to clean up, but oil-based will give me a better finish. Any suggestions?

What is the outside diameter of 1.25" conduit? If I'm not mistaken, 1.25" is the inside dimension. I'm drilling a hole to run the conduit through a wall and need to know what size hole to drill.
Thanks!

We plan to take the baseboards off when we put the flooring down. We hoped to install the baseboard to hide the gap, and were led to believe that this would work by the salesman and did not order quarter round. However, now I'm thinking that the gap we have to leave may be bigger than the thickness of the baseboards.

Is that what determines it - if I leave a gap bigger than the baseboard I'm in trouble, but if it is smaller we'll be fine?

Thanks!

How are the two pieces of sheet metal shown at the below url held together? There are just three "dents" holding them. Does this type of connection have a name? What is the name of the tool that makes it / how do I make it?

How can I hook up the bathtub drain so that the tub will drain without doing any damage to the current ceramic flooring? Do I need some kind of pump? If so what kind?
