Rustoleum non-yellowing polyurethane for metal or Varathane Non-yellowing polyurethane will clear coat and protect the finish. I would try to also find plastic feet that fit the legs so that it isn't in contact with moisture from the patio. I'v used both products on metal furniture from inside the house, not intended for outdoor use, and the furniture hasn't yet rusted in 5 years.

I took a metal based glass topped coffee table and used it on my patio several years ago. I primed the base with Rustoleum metal primer and then painted it with Rustoleum Wrought Iron Textured rust proof paint. I did put plastic caps on the legs and it is still out there in use, in all kinds of weather, being hit by the automatic sprinklers and it hasn't rusted and it still looks like the day I painted it. However, the glass is a different story. I got tired of constantly cleaning it, so I coated it with Glass Magic which is like a wax for glass. It makes the water bubble up without leaving those ugly white rings and makes the dust that blows through our canyon wipe off easily.

That clear cut mentioned above is perfect if you just want clear.

If you want a color that is the same as the original but stronger adhering you can go to an office furniture rehab place that sprays on a powder coat electrostatically and then bakes it hard.
