I started staining a few of my kitchen cabinets, which are oak. I sanded everything down to the grain and am staining with cherry stain with the poly already in it. The guy at lowes said nothing about a wood conditioner, but my cabinets are not staining evenly, no matter how much I sand. I am using a brush and not wiping it off. Am I suppose to just wipe it on and then let it dry, then lightly buff and start again? HELP!

The Senco Nailer costs more and I've used it before and it works well, just wondering if the Porter Cable works just as well since it's $200 cheaper.

I wish i could pick up my house and shake it on it's side to get rid of all this stuff, but I can't. I suggested to my dad that we have a garage sale. I've asked a couple times before, but we've been too busy. Now that he's agreed, along with my sister, we're planning to have a sale. This would go along fine and smooth but there's a problem.
My mother is a huge hoarder, and when I ask her to help out, she get's defensive and angry. She says things bitterly like "Leave me alone" and "Why are you bothering me?". She has a job, but other than that she just cooks, watches TV, checks email/ebay and reads. She is a huge reader, our house is filled with books.
Most of our stuff is hers, so it's hard to tell what to sell without asking her. We might have to avoid asking her at all, anything to get our house clean! If anyone has any advice, PLEASE help us out. We desperately need this!

What is the best type of travertine? I found 24"X24" turkish travertine for a very good price. There are gray lines in the travertine. Salesman said, the grays are onyx mixed with the travertine. Is this true? or are these impurities?

What is the whole purpose of going back 3/4" on this joist? See I am attempting to build a deck and I placed the joists every 24" [this was told to me by a cabinet maker] and once I finished the floor deck the deck was moving up and down and was not sold. My deck is 10X12 and the deck planks are 10' horizontal. So i came to the conclusion I did not place the joists

This was written by locksmith:
You measure 15 1/4", from the outside of your rim joist. That is where your first 16" on centre is. Measure back 3/4", mark a line here with a square, and an X on centre. You may find it easier to drive a small nail [only in an inch, or so ] close to the line, so that when your tape is hooked on the nail the tape clip is exactly at the outside edge of the line. Now pull out your tape, keeping it square and tight, and make make V mark at all the stud [ 16" ] marks indicated by your ta

[he is talking about a joist ] the first stud from the end of the wall will be 15 1/4 inches from the center of that stud to the center of that stud at the end of your wall. Then they are 16 inches on center the rest of the way down.

I have a king size waterbed, but my husband hurt his back and can't sleep on it anymore. I have purchased a regular mattress for it; however, I can't seem to get all of the water out of the old one. Once I get it all out, how do I dispose of it? It's really heavy.

I have recently started using a table saw for the first time and most of the time when I try cutting some material e.g MDF the piece of material that has been cut goes flying back in the direction that the material was fed into the blade. Does anyone know why this is happening and if there is a way of stopping this from occuring?

I recently built a basement bedroom with a decorative woodstove in it. I didn't insulate the drywall ceiling because I wanted the woodstove to heat the upstairs floor. The drywall ceiling looks great, but any time anyone walks around upstairs or moves a chair or anything, it sounds like a drum in the room downstairs. Is there anyway to insulate without taking down the entire ceiling. The foam sprays I've seen don't expand enough and are expensive. Any ideas?

Hey!

I am going to see some friends and family, I would lilke to bring them each gift bags filled with goodies specifically from my state, I would also like to make them a quilted runner.

If you were to get this gift. Would you prefer a runner for your table or a square for the center of your table? Which shape?

I received a quilt runner from a friend for Christmas and I loved it, I am not a crafty or country style either...this quilt is very cute (dependent on the fabric-ofcourse), and I thought I would make it for my friends too.
