I have a king size waterbed, but my husband hurt his back and can't sleep on it anymore. I have purchased a regular mattress for it; however, I can't seem to get all of the water out of the old one. Once I get it all out, how do I dispose of it? It's really heavy.

Roll it up as you drain it. Start at the farthest end from the drain and roll it up as tight as you can. If it is a motionless or percentage of low motion, you will not get all the water out because it has foam baffles that will hold the water. After getting all the water out that you can, drag it outside and cut it up to dispose of.

IMO a waterbed mattress is the best thing for an injured back as the "hardness of the mattress" can be adjusted. Most waterbeds I have seen are way too soft-they could do with more water.
Also, you must have(not maybe) a waterbed heater with temp set to 27C or 86F (or thereabouts)>>otherwise it is no different than sleeping on cold ground.<<
Once it is set right, you are in hi energy mode every day with no pain or stiffness and never tired.

Your problem....if you have syponed out as much as you can(folding up the bag as it empties to corral the water into a smaller space....................you are at the point where you need to find someone to muscle it out the door. Try resale- garage sale it. Garbage man will take as by this time you will have had it out on the back lawn upsidedown to get all the water out. So it would be lighter.

Plug the bed back up and take it outside. Turn the bladder so the bung is on the bottom side. Remove the plug again, and lift all the corners of the matress at once, so that the hole in the mattress is the lowest point. All the water should come out. Any remaining water should't be a problem.

You can also do this in the bath tub.

how are you emptying it, use a garden hose attach it to the bed and hang it out the window. If you are on the second story this is great, just let the length of the hose hang down to the ground. Gravity will suck the water out and leave just the mattress. If not you'll probably need a pump to assist. Either a small one that can attach to a hand drill. About 20 dollars. Or you can rent one from a rental place.

I, too, have a waterbed and everyone has given you great ideas as to how to empty it. (Rolling it, using a pump both have worked for me). BUT, please do not simply dispose of it to the dump in regular trash. List it on craigslist or recycle it. Many people desire non-leaking waterbeds and it can be recycled as most waterbeds manufactured after 1980 had to be made of recyclable materials.

Once you get most of the water out using your sink siphon or pump, I cap the bed, roll it out like a big bag of water and take it outside. Once there turn it upside down, uncap, and roll it like a big toothpaste tube...the water will squish out. If you have a waveless style mattress then there are big spongy matts inside that are retaining water. You can roll the water out as above to get it down to the siphon end as well. You can also slowly pull the 'drained part out of the bed to concentrate the water into one end. Once very drained it will likely weigh < 50 pounds so you could dispose of it.
I just put mine in the apartment complex trash dumpster.
