We are about to build a home and I am wanting a rustic look. We have a lot of timber (various type - oak, hedge, Sycamore, cedar) on our ranch and want to use the tree trunks as upright supports for the stairs, porch, in the great room, etc. What do we have to do to be able to use them? House won't even be started for at least 6 months.

I've just installed a washing machine using a cold water feed and have no need (at the moment) for the hot water feed pipe. It's got a tap at the end but I also want to seal it somehow. Where can I get something to seal/blank it off?

I know it may vary between species so I know I will be working with red and white oak, cherry, walnut and hickory. I am building a solar kiln in the late summer or fall however, I am finding premium logs now. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

We installed a new courier thermostat today. The old therm, had blue, red, yellow, green and white wires. We attached Red to R, yellow to Y1, Green to G, White to W1 and the blue to C. When we turned the power back on, the therm doesn't turn on (work at all). The directions say to attach the brown wire to the C, but we don't have one and called courier and they said attach the blue to the C. What did we do wrong?

I posted this in the decorating/remodeling section, but not getting much help, so I'll try again here.

The guy who lived in my condo before me gutted and remodeled the kitchen. He did a beautiful job, except for the plastering job on the soffets above the cabinets. The plastering job where the soffets meet the ceiling is uneven and irregular. I was thinking that instead of going through the hassle of sanding/replastering, I could cover it up with some narrow crown molding that matches my cabinets...they're a light natural wood color. Would this work?

My husband and I received a whole set of the awesome cookware for our wedding a year ago, love it, but had nowhere safe to keep it from scratching. My parents bought us the wall mount for Christmas this year, but the instructions basically say "good luck on your own" for figuring out how to get it on the wall. I couldn't believe it doesn't even recommend items to buy from the hardware store to do it!

We don't mind doing it of course, but does anyone who's had experience hanging wall pot racks know what kind of things we need to buy to hang it on the wall?

Thanks!
