I need a new back door B&Q sell a door for £99 but it is not wide enough, how can I make it fit in an opening that is 890mm wide when the frame supplied is only 840mm wide, any help greatly apprieciated

Hi to answer your question : Buy the £99 door and frame, you have oversize apperture of 50mm. Half this for each side giving 25mm. take off a further 6mm giving each side clearance. Measure the size of frame from out side to inside,,,say 85mm. So you want strips of timber of 85 X18 mm. each side

When door and frame are fitted, discrepancies between brick and timber is usually taken up with the thin plastic packers sold at the merchants.

This gap,,timber.. and plastic packer is all cloaked with a flat PVC 30mm. cover mould thus from the in/out side all looks plastic. You are dead chuffed cosyour door cost a paltry £99 you comr round ere and buy me a pint. This then makea us both verry appy bunnies .Cheers Jeff Daykin

If you have to adapt (remake, rebuild, repair) the new door, why not see what it would take to redo (remake, rebuild, repair) the old door.
