My living room is small but I have a vaulted ceiling with a white popcorn ceiling. I painted most of the room a "desert powder" (behr paint) color which is kind of sandy color with a hint of yellow. Portions of the room have a lower 4 ft trim with a stucco type bottom wall seperated by a wood border. I was thinking of going with a high gloss ultra white on the border but I have no idea what to paint the lower stucco wall. Friends say it has to be opposite and darker with dark blues, browns but Im not sure i like that. I was thinking of an antique white, taupe, beige types or a color called "calming retreat" (behr). Am I breaking design rules, will it look bad? I need some help...Single male bachelor who cant design but trying....Thanks for any help!

I have recently moved in to a rented house and in one room the carpet is a horrible pink colour. The problem is my landlord does not want me to take it up. As I am going to be here for about a year I would like to cover it with a cheap carpet. Can I lay another carpet on top.

How do you fix that.. remove the entire section or is there a easier way to fix this damage. It looks like a lot of work but was trying to see if it matters how big of an area you remove.. will it be hard to match the rest of the section?

Any ideas here or may I not explaining this right.

The solar spot lights I have now are very dull and don't last very long. I want ones that can light up a tree and can stay lit for at least 4 hours.

It is basically our extra room. It is big (don't know the measurments, sorry). It fits two desks, a couch & chair, coffee table, an excercise bike, and a TV, and there is still more room. The couch, chair, table, and desks need to be replaced. The exercise bike is black, and we'll keep that. There are a couple of file cabinets that are greyish olive (replace?). The carpet is beige-ish tan, and the windows will probably very soon have white shutters (other suggestions are welcome). What color(s) do you think would look good in this room?

Thank you :)

I am thinking of selling my house in the spring. I have had lots of jobs done and the structure is fine but the kitchen is about 20 years old. It is sound but a bit dated. Should I fit a new one and add it on to the price or just clean up the existing one and sell it cheaper.

I live in a small apartment and the dining area is virtually part of the living room. I have a small rectangular wooden table (antique) that isn't especially attractive. How can I make this look more attractive? The dining chairs are small and very pretty Victorian. My furnishing style is a blend of modern (mostly leather) with antique.

I signed the lease contract for the studio flat before I got to see the cleaned and fixed one. Previous resident lived there for over 10 yrs and this place looked like someone was dead in there.. It had a strong smoking odor and closet was so old fashion it did not have a mirror. But this will all change accordin to the manager.
So my question is, I absolutely do not want to live on that same carpet. How would I check if the carpet has been replaced?
What things can I do to see the the carpet is new and the odor has NOT been covered with new paints and etc..

Now that this semester is over, I have time to decorate my room. I have been wanting to do something with it, but with college and work I have not has any time till now.
I have white walls ( i like them, simple and clean). I just think that the walls are too bare. I did a poster on cardiology a couple of weeks ago to put on it, and another poster about neurology. Other then that I have this quote by Dr. Cox saying "Nothing in life worth having comes easily."
Other then that all the walls are completely bare......
any ideas?
I am in to all medical stuff (its hard to find posters related to it though)
