I live in San Francisco and I rent an in-law apartment in the basement of this house next to the garage. My kitchen is located outside my place and in the garage with a gas stove. Is this illegal?

I planted my maple maybe late summer, and it looked kinda like it was going to die(edge of leaves looked dry), but I planted it anyway. It took a while for leaves to turn red, I remember looking at it, admiring the leaves, and all of a sudden, the next day, the leaves looked fried!! not only dry like every other tree, but really, like fried, like they shrunk or something.. is that normal??, There is also what I think is new growth, but not sure, since i've never had a maple before.

I was told that you cannot use regular joint compound over the fiberglass tape. I want to know if this is true. If it is, what type of compound should I use for fiberglass tape?

It is basically our extra room. It is big (don't know the measurments, sorry). It fits two desks, a couch & chair, coffee table, an excercise bike, and a TV, and there is still more room. The couch, chair, table, and desks need to be replaced. The exercise bike is black, and we'll keep that. There are a couple of file cabinets that are greyish olive (replace?). The carpet is beige-ish tan, and the windows will probably very soon have white shutters (other suggestions are welcome). What color(s) do you think would look good in this room?

Thank you :)

I am recoating a piece of furniture that I used oil based MinWax polyurethane on previously.
I finally invested in a HVLP spray gun and would like to use faster drying finish and I am thinking Varnish would be a candidate.

Can I apply varnish over oil based polyurethane ?
How about water based varnishes over oil poly ?

Thanks, Mike

Last summer we had these neighbors move in next door and they are huge slobs! They tore down a shed and left all the wood and crap laying in their yard and they had a pile of boxes everywhere. Ever since then we have had rats, mice, and roaches in our brand new house. You think that is what caused the infestation? Should I tell their landlord? It is a huge health hazard and I have small children. I want to get rid of them. I tried glue traps, poison, plug holes with steel wool. Nothing seems to work. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks!

this question is for the ladies, if your husband or boyfriend is a construction worker or any kind or labor worker like plumber for example. lets say he goes out and works in the hot weather, he sweats, he uses the portable toilet. when it rains, he gets mud all on his jeans and socks.... you get the point. when he comes home, do you wash his current outfit together with your clothes? i am asking this out of curiousity because i find it disgusting and i just want to know how many people do this. washing your clothes once in the washer doesnt make your clothes 100% clean.

Please don't suggest birdseed..I really don't feel like going out in the cold weather. I want to use everyday household things. Thanks :-)
