Squirrels are eating through the wires and hauling away my lights. Why would they do this?

Squirrels are the single most destructive creature there is. They have to keep chewing as their front teeth are constantly growing. They will chew their way into and through anything and everything. I have seen them chew holes in soffits to gain access to attics where they chew house wiring and anything else available. They have also been known to destroy wiring, airducts and other soft items in cars and trucks. If a shotgun is legal in your neighbor hood get one as they're hard to hit with a BB gun. However a BB gun is better than nothing but will seldom kill one.

Place some uprights of solid wood in the garden lightly coated in peanut butter. They will move to these and gnaw away, giving your lights respite.
