I have a sunroom that I just built that has deck boards for flooring that I stained with a "cedar" toned "deckstain". It looks good and I like the color but want a nice glossy finish on it that will also stand up well. Also want the same result on some cedar trim on the outside that is also stained with the deckstain. What can I use that will apply over the existing stain to give me the gloss? Thanks

Ok. I just bought a big pumpkin and it's sitting on my front porch right now. I haven't carved it, and I'm not going to, it's there for decoration. My wife wants to paint it.

How long will it last before it starts to rot?

Thanks.

A friend wants me to help her repot her Purple Wandering Jew. It's too large, and she wants to cut the size down into a smaller pot, and then replant the rest. I have looked up how to reroot the wandering jew, but I wanted to double check on the best way to cut down it's size to fit into a smaller vase. I usually wouldn't worry, as I'm quite good with plants, but I found out there is a personal story behind the plant, and I REALLY want to make sure I keep it alive. Thanks for your help!

I've emptied and sponged out the tank. The instructions then said for me to undo a nut or something under the toilet. There is a white one above a metal pipe, but it is on so tight. I can't use a wrench I have because it is too long. Help please!

Years ago, before they put in the sewers, the shower smoked, but now it acts like a regular old grandma shower. I've purchased a couple of shower heads that promised more fire power, but alas, that magic massage has eluded me. Help!!

Sometimes the fan will start. Other times it will just hum when I power it on. If I turn the power off and then manually rotate the fan a quarter turn or so, it will then start when I apply power. Does this point to bad brushes, a bad starting capacitor, or something more serious?

I live in Northern Lower Michigan (Zone 5). Our home sits upon a hill with a deep valley about 150' upwind so all year long winds rip through our half acre lot decreasing our homes heating/cooling efficiency, terrorizing our landscaping projects and outdoor furniture and making outdoor events just a windy nightmare. I have a hedge row of lilac (Syringa Vulgaris - or Common) started (five 7'+) to protect our yard but I am looking for something evergreen (or dec. and dense like a privet), fast growing and nice looking to protect our home more efficiently.
I have 70' between our home and the berm down to the road and we have a vegetable garden (30'x30') and a cement block worm farm (compost bin) (15'Lx4'D into side yard). Can anyone offer me suggestions for an efficient windbreak solution? How short/tall and how far from house to be effective and not cause adverse drifting or hot, stagnant air pockets?? What type of plant should I use? Thank you!

I can find plenty of rules on "open burning" but I don't think using this would be open burning....it was bought at a department store, has a mesh cover to put over the logs so sparks dont go flying everywhere, etc..
