I can find plenty of rules on "open burning" but I don't think using this would be open burning....it was bought at a department store, has a mesh cover to put over the logs so sparks dont go flying everywhere, etc..

Call your local fire department... they can tell you quite quickly. Up here in Clackamas Co. it would be under restrictions when the fire danger is too high.

There are allot of places that require a Burning permit, and you can check at the local Fire Department. Then again, camp fires, or contained fires are not considered Open Burning and you don't need a permit for those. The fires they are talking about when they say, Open Burning, are like Bonn Type Fires. Like when you are burning Leaves, and other Yard waste. I Don't think your allowed to Burn Trash, But you would need a permit for that if you were. (Let's hope not) Check for the rules on Burning ,If you just want to be safe. En-joy it, we bought one but have not used it yet because it has been windy where we live, and now into Fire Season. I think we are going to wait till later on, when the Santa Anna Winds subside.
