Ok. I just bought a big pumpkin and it's sitting on my front porch right now. I haven't carved it, and I'm not going to, it's there for decoration. My wife wants to paint it.

How long will it last before it starts to rot?

Thanks.

It depends on how warm it is outside. If it's cold, it will last longer. I had one that lasted longer than a couple months, but it was chilly enough. The heat and sun beating down on it will make it shrivel in no time.

Just out on the porch, uncarved it will last a very long time. Unless it freezes then it will rot quickly. Pumpkins used to be stored in cellars for winter vegetables and could easily last through the winter.
