Two years ago I planted a whole bunch of assorted lily bulbs my wife bought on QVC. They bloomed profusely and now all the flowers are gone. When do I cut the stalks back? Last year I waited until the fall but had all the stalks sticking up all summer.

For the last two days, I've been hearing this persistent rattling/knocking around my bedroom. After searching high and low, I THINK it is coming from the internal wall. Can anyone make any suggestions as to what it could be?

I don't think it is water hammer as the noise doesn't seem consistent with opening/closing taps. It is pretty windy where I am at the moment so I don't know if that has ANYTHING to do with it! I'm in despair as I can't sleep because of the noise!

Serious advice would be greatly appreciated!

I have a Snapper rear engine lawn mower. When I turn sharp in one direction, the front wheels get stuck. The steering wheel is very hard to straighten out and one in a while it gets stuck in position and I have to kick the wheel while driving to get it to turn straight.

What is the problem and what can I do to fix this? I have alredy stripped/sheared the bolt at the steering column from forcing the wheels straight from turning.

Thoughts anyone?

Hello all you "masters of saving space with creative ideas"! lol. I'm in need of some SERIOUS help. I have tons of shoes and handbags that I need organized. I've already removed the items I don't want anymore, (and then I went and replaced them with new ones so I'm still right back where I started, except with the excitement of having some new peices). lol. Anyway, can anyone recommend some creative "space saving" ideas for getting my accesories OUT OF THE WAY?! Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!

I am in the middle of refinishing my kitchen cupboards, but am hoping to find something to do the top coat that's not so stinky (It's really hot outside right now...so I really don't want to have to keep the windows open when the sun is beating on the house!) And before you say anything...yup I should have thought about it before deciding to start refinishing my cupboards in the middle of summer.

Hello! I may have a problem with water hammer or pockets of air or whatever in my plumbing system. In order to troubleshoot, I want to drain the water from the pipes for the whole house and then refill it. What should I do with the water in water heater and water softner? Do I drain the water heater and water softner? Just turn power off on my Kenmore water softner? or use bypass valve? Thanks for your time!

I live in Tennessee. I bought a nice lavender plant and it started dying a few days later. I tried planting it in the ground, and that didn't help. Then I tried replanted it back in the same pot I got it from and added some gravel to the bottom to help drain the soil, as per HGTV.com tips.
Should I water it daily? Every other day? Anything else I should try?

Anybody know of the best tubing for the water for swamp coolers on the roof. We used copper and it splits every year. Even when it's drained it seems to split. Is there any tubing we can use where we don't have to replace it every season?

Im looking into laying some sort of groundcover in our backyard to prevent the ground it from becoming so muddy when it rains which in turn will keep our 4 dogs from tracking in so much mud. Im considering pine needles or some type of mulch to help control the puddles. The yard is pretty much bare not to mention on a severe dowslope. My main concern is making sure the cover i buy isnt hazardous to the dogs if they were to digest it. My second concern is to find a low cost, low maintenance material that will last and look half way decent. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

My dad washed the brick wall at the back of our house and then built a new room around it. White stuff that looks like small, hard snow crystals has been coming out of the bricks (I'm assuming it's lime). Is it safe, considering it's now indoors, and how can I get rid of it? Thanks!!

I have a lot of soil left from an excavation (driveway), and I am wondering if using this soil instead of buying topsoil is an option ? I don't know where to put this extra soil that's why using it for my lawn would be ideal! Does that work to use normal soil and add some kind of fertilisers ?

It still drains but slowly and the bathtub next to the kitchen is now full of yucky, smelly water that will not drain at all. I have been putting my coffee grounds down the disposal. I just read where that can clog a disposal - could that be the problem? What do I do?
