For the last two days, I've been hearing this persistent rattling/knocking around my bedroom. After searching high and low, I THINK it is coming from the internal wall. Can anyone make any suggestions as to what it could be?

I don't think it is water hammer as the noise doesn't seem consistent with opening/closing taps. It is pretty windy where I am at the moment so I don't know if that has ANYTHING to do with it! I'm in despair as I can't sleep because of the noise!

Serious advice would be greatly appreciated!

In relation to some responses, I will try and elaborate.

The property is a two-storey house. The room in question is on the second floor, at the back of the house.

With regards to the sounds, I have tried knocking on the walls after the sound is emitted and it doesn't silence, so I don't think it's vermin. The location of the sound seems to be in the internal wall, by a window and located near a radiator. I am leaning towards the belief it has something to do with the radiator.

I have look outside to see if anything is banging against the wall but it's not. The sound often reverberates for a short time.

I hope I have elaborated in a helpful way.

There are trillions of possiblilities. If it is mice, a sharp knock on the wall will scare them into momentary silence. Go to where the noise is emanating from and knock. If silence ensues, you will know it is mice or rats or something that was frightened into silence. You do not mention if this is in a house or apartment or moble home or some other type of dwelling.
Too many things could cause this racket. I would need much more information to even guess.

You could at least eliminate mice as the cause if knocking doesn't stop the noise.

You say that it is in an interior wall. If it is in an apartment, it could be something in the next apartment.

Without more info, I am more stumped than you are.

Yes it could be a lot of different things.
Perhaps a loose gutter,a vent cover or flapper in a dryer exhaust or bathroom exhaust fan,a loose shutter on a window,it could even be a bad flapper in a toilet that is leaking just slow enough to make the toilet need to refil but not very fast and this will cause a ratteling sound also.
If you have vinyl or metal siding on your house that is loose?
A birds nest in a soffitt of the roof somehow?
A tree branch or bush rubbing the house?

Many things could cause this. A rodent in the wall, a cable outside hitting the wall, or even air entering the wall and wiggling an unsecured pipe.

Turn off both valves to the radiator, and see if this cures the problem. If not then it has to be something in the wall.
