A good friend just brought a small racnher and doesn't want to do home improvements for himself. He wants to pay me to do several projects including: painting the tile in a small bathroom, painting an average-sized bedroom, and painting the cabinets in a small galley-style kitchen. I suggested that he pay me $50.00 per project. The house cost around $80,000. My friend has around $7,000 for home repairs, and his hourly income is around $13.00. (He isn't a rich man.) Is $50.00 a reasonable price for labor considering my friend buys the nessecary supplies? If not, what price per project should I request of my friend? I am a college student, and this money would be very helpful to me because I could do the work on the weekend in addition to my parttime job.

We recently installed a recessed can light in the shower. Now it goes off after being on for about 20 minutes. I have a 60 watt bulb in there. Is that too high of watt? Sorry, but I can't find any documentation on what bulb to put in.

The walls are mid grey with white baseboards and molding. Cabinets and shelves are white. I would like to add some bold colors into the mix by painting the cabinet doors a different color. They are white now. What are a few ways to bring the colors into other parts of the space.

What is the Best "available" outdoor wood deck preservative you have had experience with? Available is an important part of this question. I have heard of "Weather Warrior", with a 10 year guarantee-- Also, "Viking Oil"- (which might have been tongue in cheek), but neither of those products is available in S.W. Missouri. Any first hand, experienced opinion will be appreciated. (D.W.)

A friend of mine, 80 years old, doesn't plant potatoes until there is a full moon in June. He swears he gets bigger and more consistent potatoes but he can't explain why. He's done it that way years. What would be the possible connection with the moon and planting potatoes?

I am fixing up an old house and have a few questions about the ceilings. May main concern is for the open livingroom /kitchen area. 1. What size molding is appropriate in rooms with low ceilings. I like the big stuff but I only see it in higher rooms. I want the room to appear larger.
2. Will recessed lighting highlight flaws in the ceiling? The ceilings are smooth but uneven in places. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a 5.5 hp Briggs Straton engine on my nice lawnmower but I let it set for over a year and didn't drain it. I took it in, paid $99 !!!!!!! to have it fixed and all spiffed up. Came home ran fine, seemed a bit fast, and then when I went to do the back yard, it starts great, and then just fades right out. I think I put old gas in it, so I drained that out, opened up the bottom of the carb.and then took off the fuel line and drained it. ANd it still does the starts fine and just dies out ?????? Help.
