Outside faucets for hoses leak, how can I replace or fix them ?

I think the question states it, I want to replace both of my outside faucets or repair them or ??? because they squirt out about 1/4 of the water before it goes down the hose. My house is 26 years old so I figure it must be time for new ones

Now a days they are easy to replace with a new device called a shark bite. Turn off the water cut the pipe pull out the old faucet then take a new one and attach a new piece of pipe the same length as the old one and stick it in theother end of the shark bite - done . takes $20.00 and 15 minutes. Just Goggle < shark bite fittings > and check it out.

The simple and quick way is to either purchase a repair kit if you can find it or purchase an entire matching faucet. Shut of the main water supply or if that garden zone has it's own shut off valve use that. Then carefully unscrew the plastic cap on top and replace with the one from the new faucet. It could be the inside failed as it was designed to do to relieve pressure in case of freeze conditions. In that case also replace the knob you twist to turn it on/off. Just write off the body of the faucet, you have the parts you need. Assuming there is no repair kit. Sometimes mfgs will change the design so when you get it home take a moment to insure the parts match. When you go to purchase the new faucet you may want to bring a photo, use your phone or a digital camera and show the photo to the person who assists you.

Go ahead and replace both hose bibs, they're easy. First of all, close your homeowner shut-off at your meter box out by the street. You may not have one of these but, you can still shut your water off. You'll need a pair of channel locks, with these you will be able to close the ball valve at the yoke. Once your water is shut off, open your hose bib all the way open, this will drain most the water in the water lines in the house. Once all the water has drained, take the pair of channel locks and unscrew the old hose bib. Using either Teflon tape or pipe dope, put either around the threads and then install your new hose bib. Repeat this step for the remaining hose bibs. Good luck, you can do it.

I don't know where its leaking from, but if they are leaking from the nut behind the on/off handle. Thats the bonnet packing nut. Tighten it down clockwise and it might stop the leak.
If it will not turn then replace the faucet. Here in the Midwest we use a freezless faucet that will not freeze if you keep the hose off in cold weather. Try that

Make sure the hose has a good gasket in it before you go to replace the entire spigot. As the other poster said, Home Depot sells Shark Bite fittings now which makes it much easier for someone who doesn't know how to sweat pipe to make repairs.

Before you go through the trouble as stated above, make sure the faucets don't just screw off. I replaced all of mine and they just scew off, I bought replacements at the local HW store and w/ a little teflon tape just screw them back on. Takes less than 10 min and about $5. Just make sure you turn off the water to the house before you start!

Hi, not necessarily. You can remove the Handel and wrap a line around it made of graphite. It's called Graphite packing material, sold in the plumbing Dept.It will be in with the O rings and washers. Graphite Packing Material. Bye

If you re speaking of the hydrant style dig a foot or two down, unscrew and replace with a frostfree style.
