My sister just moved into a small studio apartment and its made much like a hotel room, with a very small closet and she needs somewhere to put her clothes in exchange for a dresser, as the dresser she has would be too big. thanks for your help.

I don't know if your sister can afford it, but Pottery Barn has a great bedframe. It has a platform for the mattress and the base has openings either for drawers (which you can order with the frame) or baskets that pull out. My daughter has a small apartment and I was thinking about it for her. I'll post the link below for you to look at it. I could only find the daybed, but it also comes in full and queen with more openings in the catalog.

If this is too pricey for her, maybe she can come up with an idea of a platform for her bed (even a sheet of plywood cut to the size of her mattress and box spring and some type of supports on the four corners) and use baskets underneath the bed.

I don't know if you have an IKEA in your area, but I would definitely check out the store or the catalog. In the store they have several models for how to squeeze an entire living space into different sizes. I think the range is 400 sq feet and up. Everything in there seemed to look nice, so I think they're definitely worth taking a look. Other than that, I would suggest trying to find a bed with drawers underneath and getting something else to store hanging clothes. The other option is just to use under the bed baskets (you can find some very cute ones to match your furnishing) and use those to store close. Decorative and out of sight!

Is there only one closet?
All of her furniture should do double duty as something else.
1] platform bed with storage drawers
2] trunk as coffee table or end table or both
3] 'kitchen' table with a drawer in it for double duty as a desk
4] file cabinets or bookcase with TV, stereo components
5] desk or kitchen chair [ could store one behind it against the wall ]
6] one nice comfy armchair
Draw a picture on graph paper to scale, and make cutouts of furniture. Then you can practice arrangements without sweating!

How about using a trunk as a coffee table. Duel purpose. You use it to store out of season clothes and extra bedding or whatever. Plus it makes an attractive coffee table.
