I have a 50-60 ft. tree in the center of my back patio and onto it I am training various types of morning glories and moonflowers (evening glories).

As these start to come in and fill the trunk of the tree with their green heart-shaped leaves and multi-colored flowers I'm wondering what I should plant in the rest of the border around the tree.

The area will be partial sun (3 hours) / partial shade (4 hours) and the soil will be moderately dry and well drained.

I'm open to all range of suggestions from flowers to ferns, I'm just trying to figure out what would look best.

just bought a couple of natural color rocking chairs. They look like they've been stained and not sealed with some protective treatment. What's the best product to use to protect my rockers from fading in the sun, the rain, and general cracking due to possible weather damaging?

We just moved into a house and I want to plant flowers in the front in between the bushes... but it is facing away from the sun so the area is 100% shaded. If at all possible, I'd like to plant colorful flowers. Thanks for any and all advice!

Note: I'm not a fan of hostas...

There are linoleum tiles which are not the problem; I can get them up, but the sub-flooring (wood) around the toilet is old and rotting and I need to replace it. How do I lift the toilet off to repair the floor? Any other suggestions would be great!

We had a fire in our office most of the damage was smoke. However after the fire we have noticed our fluorescent light bulbs seem to be burning out quickly. These were not replaced by the cleaning crew. Is it safe to assume that the smoke damage is causing them go burn out quickly? Anyone have any links that justifies this thought?

Thanks

I recently built my house and my real estate agent said I wouldn't need to purchase a Sump Pump since I live on a hill and shouldn't get any flooding. Which is true, I have never had any problems with my basement flooding.

What bothers me is I now have neighbors on either side of me that built their houses and they are at the same elevation however they both have sump pumps that they say run quite often. My sump pit has no water in it, just a bunch of mud. My neighbor said this is not good, that there should always be some water showing that the drain tile is working. He believes that my drain tile is plugged and it is allowing water to leak next to the foundation.

Is my neighbor right? Does it sound like I have a drain tile problem? Should there always be water in my sump pit?

It saves me a ton of time as I have a toddler and the only good time to do laundry is when she's sleeping, but I can't get it all done so I wash some after I get home from work late and night and then dry it in the morning before she gets up. Is this bad?

I have owned my house for 20 years. There is a storage unit behind my house. It was there before my house was built. Instead of a backyard fence, I have the storage units 11 foot wall for a fence. It is also the back wall of 3 or 4 storage units. I have plants and vines planted near the wall. Over the years when I have forgotten the hose running in the plants , sometimes the water would go into the storage units. Also when we get alot of rain, with our clay ground, the water just sits in the yard, and also goes into the storage units. Yesterday I forgot the water, and a couple of units water got in and caused some damage. I feel I'm on my own property, and the owner should have done something along time ago. He could have raised the floor in the units. I was careless, but I was on my property, and when I water, how do I know how much is too much? I think it was up to the owner to make sure it didn't happen again! He's had 20 years to do something. Who responsible? Me or him?

I followed instructions on the package for my lilies, tulips, and daffodils, measuring how deep and how far apart. BUT now they look so sparse! I thought maybe they would spread, but they didn't. How do people get the thick bunches of tulips and such? Do they plant the bulbs all in the same spot? Why do the instructions say they must be 6" apart? I don't get it.

Ok, so I'm not the neatest person in the world... and I HATE to clean. I have a 3 bedroom 2 bath home, and it is always a wreck. It's not filthy, just messy. Like clothes piled everywhere and things like that. I can't stand it messy, and I am so much more relaxed when it is clean. I just dread it.... I don't even know why I dread it, it isn't that bad. I need help getting motivated to clean, and to keep it clean. Also, I work a full-time job 6 days a week, 8-6. So that dosen't leave me much time in the afternoon. Just my fiance' and I live there. How do you ladies keep your homes spotless all the times? How do you get motivated to do it?

last year my sister gave me a John F. Kennedy rose bush. I have many roses of all types and never had a problem. I went outside yesterday and it is all dried up. I think there is a little bit of green near the base, but I am afraid it's gone. I planted all my rose bushes the same way and this was no different. any ideas on what I did wrong? any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. This bush is special because my sister gave it to me for my b-day. I know she will be upset, but not angry with me. They are so expensive. Do you think I just replace and not say anything? This is kind of a lie of ommision, but I want her to think it lived. Am I wrong?

Old cooking oil from a deep fat fryer oozed onto the carpet - maybe a pint or more. I scraped it up, rubbed and soaped it, washed it, but now it smells rancid - hotter weather is no help.

What cleaner/product, or action will make this go away? I have wedding guests who will be riding in the car on May 12th. Thanks from them, and from me.

I have a 3 piece french provencial set. A couch and 2 wing chairs. The 2 chairs are in good to very good condition. The larger wingback chair has some small rips in the upholstery (courtesy of my 4 year old) which are covered by the armrest protectors. The smaller chair could use some minor touch up on the exposed wood.Structurally all are excellent. I am wondering what to list this set for. If someone wanted to reapolser this set what would they pay?
