You may need to take it in to a vacuum repair center and have them professionally clean it. That's the only thing that worked for my old vacuum.

They use to sell these packets at...I think.. Walmart they were some kinda pebbles..and you would sweep them up into the Vacumm and they smelled really good and everytime you would sweep the floor you could still smell them...but for the life of me I can't remember what they were called...but maybe you ask in the household department?

Try sprinkling some baking soda on the floor and then sweep it up. This should cover all areas of the sweeper that may contain odors.

Try a few dryer sheets inside the bag/can.
