It saves me a ton of time as I have a toddler and the only good time to do laundry is when she's sleeping, but I can't get it all done so I wash some after I get home from work late and night and then dry it in the morning before she gets up. Is this bad?

I have a shared laundry room where I live so it's sometimes "take a number" for a dryer. I find it's easier to wash, then dry later...like in the morning. I don't let the stuff sit for more than half a day and I take it out and place into a laundry basket and just leave it wet until I have time to dry.

I do it sometimes, too. The only downside is that the wet laundry sitting in the washer could develop mildew or mold. I use borax along with my regular laundry detergent because it kills mold and mildew, so it is less likely to develop overnight. One other potential problem, is that if you have garments which are multi-colored and made in SE Asia, be careful to only wash them in loads of the same color. The dyes they are using tend to bleed (unless you set the dye the first time you wash it with vinegar in the rinse water) and sitting with other garments could transfer color.

No! I usually put in a load when I go to bed then dry them in the morning before I leave for work. I have 2 teenage boys who are constantly on the go, so it's basically the only time I can do laundry. Just make sure you don't leave the laundry in the washer too long or it'll start to mildew.

Not horrible but the less time wet clothes sit around - the better. It tends to start mildew growth. Clothes tend to get that mildew smell pretty quickly! I would suggest - at the very least - taking the clothes out of the washer and putting them on a drying rack. This will get thm out of their bunched up state and allow them to start drying. Then fully drying them in the morning. You will save a bit of electricity too saving on drying time!

it can be...it's not good for the clothes fibers to stay wet that long...they stretch out, fade, etc.

also, your clothes might mold while sitting in a confined space for a long period of time.

i suggest picking a day off or an afternoon/evening each weel to devote to getting laundry done and don't do anything else until it is. 4 loads usually takes about two hours to wash and dry :) if your toddler is trying to run all over the place while you're trying to get stuff done, then distract her. give her a special laundry job...like, have her help you load the washer or hide some clothes in wierd places and have her hunt for them to get them washed. when folding, you could have her do all the socks or something. if she doesn't buy into helping you, have her color or put on a cd or video while you're sorting and loading

As long as the clothes do not sit for hours and hours, it is fine. Washing at night and drying the next morning should be no problem. I have always heard that, if clothes have to sit in the washer over 24 hours, you should run them through another wash cycle before drying to prevent mildewing.

Its better to put the clothes in the dryer if you have to leave them over night. That way theres no chance of them mildewing from being left wet in the washer. then you can always turn the dryer on for 10 or 15 minutes the next day to shake out the wrinkles.

I do this at night when the kids have given me all the clothing they've worn that day .It gets washed and hung on the clothes horse and i get them hung out the next morning I don't think what your doing is bad it sounds as if your pretty well organized a few hours sitting folded won't do the any harm

Overnight for 10 hours or less is OK. Any more and they will start to mildew, and you'll have to wash them over, again.

IF it was a white load, and you used bleach, then they can sit in the washer for days, sometimes.

Just use your nose. Open the top of the washer and stick your nose in and smell. Do you smell fresh-washed (but wet) clothes, or do you get a mildew smell?
