Old cooking oil from a deep fat fryer oozed onto the carpet - maybe a pint or more. I scraped it up, rubbed and soaped it, washed it, but now it smells rancid - hotter weather is no help.

What cleaner/product, or action will make this go away? I have wedding guests who will be riding in the car on May 12th. Thanks from them, and from me.

Grease Stain Removal from Carpet
Try this tip when cleaning carpet stains: Apply a generous layer of baking soda or cornstarch to greasy spots and leave overnight. After vacuuming, the grease should be absorbed. If there is any residue or discoloration left behind, blot with vinegar until the stain is lifted. A dishwashing liquid or detergent specializing in removing grease will also remove carpet stains that are greasy. Make a solution of half detergent and half water and spray directly onto the stain. Blot until the stain is removed. Blot again with a damp sponge to rinse. Good luck!!....=)

What you need now is some heavy duty odor control. You can use a box of baking soda, activated charcoal, fabreeze, or carpet fresh and leave it in the car until you no longer smell the rancid oil smell.

oxi-clean is an easy way to clean it. Use that, then steam clean your rugs, especially if you're having a wedding party there, spend the extra $ to get it really cleaned. You can rent one at supermarkets, I get one at the A&P for about $20 for 24 hours, plus the cost of the cleaning solution. It really is simple to do, not so different from vacuuming, and you will be amazed at how good your rug looks after.

If I were you, i'd definitely do that. And getting a professional in will cost hundreds, so do it yourself, and you'll get the same results.
