I would dig up the grass in order to give the pebbles someplace to live, so they wouldn't roll off onto the driveway and make a mess. You will need to hold them in. Hoyakins

I would dig up the grass, or it's just going to grow through in a few weeks. You may want to just use a little shovel, dig up the sides of your walkway, measure it so you do it evenly, and some people lay down that plastic stuff you can get at home depot or other similar store. If you lay it down on the ground, and put the pebbles over it, it'll help prevent anything from coming up right under it, not too hard at all to do either.

there is an easier way. all you have to do is buy a chemical called ground clear they usually sell it at a co-op. one brand is called eraser. get a pump sprayer and spray before you lay pebbles and nothing will grow there for 6 months. so, you will have to spray the area twice yearly. laying landscape fabric after you spray and before you drop the pebbles is also a good idea. i would also recommend some kind of edging to contain the pebbles, because as previously posted, they can end up everywhere

Get a sod cutter. You have to do this because the grass with grow up between your pebbles. You can also carefully measure off the section and spray something that will kill grass.

Cut and peel away sod. Lay down landscape fabric to prevent grass and weeds from growing through it. Then add gravel.
If gravel is next to a lawn...think about whether you really want this...It can get messy if people, especially kids, are walking on it..gravel gets kicked into the yard, gets shoveled into the yard after snow storms, and can be hard to walk on in any type of heel.

A sod cutter would be the best... You don't want grass growing up between your freshly laid pebbles! It would only cause more work for you in the long run.

yes, and lay down weed-x cover the whole area where you want the pebbles. If you don't put something down before the peebles you will have lots of weeds.
