We'd had our fridge for just over a year, and the bulb went. Though it a bit odd that it'd only lasted a year, but never mind. So we replaced the bulb. And that's when we discovered that even when you close the door, the light stays on!!

There's a button you can press that changes it from 'always on' to 'turns off when you close the door'. The fridge had come from the factory with it set to 'always on'.

So that explains why the bulb only lasted a year, but leads me to 2 questions:

1) Why is there a setting for the light to stay on when the door is closed????
2) Why is the factory default setting 'always on'??

Our fireplace is un-used. We have a nice stylish insert in it instead because of our fear of fireplaces and our kids being near them. Also don't want the hassle of having to clean it all the time. The previous owners of our house left a big pill of black soot in the bottom of it and was wondering the best way to clean it without making a big mess in the process. Started using a broom and dust pan but that just stirs it up. And washing off the walls of it, how do we do that without making a mess too? I prefer my beige carpet over black any day!

The floor would have to be durable with 3 kids & 4 dogs. We would prefer to change our enviroment instead of just giving our allergy girl medications.

The idiots who hung the chandalier in my place hung in NOT in the center of the floor were the table can sit out of the way. In order to get it directly under I have to move the table half way into the walk way so people will have to walk around it near the sliding glass door to get to the bedrooms. Any advice? Should I leave it looking off or try to rig it up some how?

For example if I poured boiling water in my bathtub, is it then considered sterilized? I am trying to find somthing else to use besides harsh cleaning products. And I have tried many "organic" products, and they just don't work as well.

I live on my own in a 3 bedroom house. The radiators are turned off in the least used rooms. I don't like it hot, so have the heating on a very low setting. The loft is well insulated and I have double glazing all round. I don't use an excessive amount of hot water when washing, and the washing machine is cold fill only (no hot supply used). My hob is gas, but the oven is electric.

A recent gas bill from a few months ago was £80 for 5 weeks.

Is it possible that my gas meter has become defective and is seriously over-reading? Or is it possible that my boilers efficiency has reduced from the manufacturers claim of approx. 75% to something like 20%?!!!
It was serviced recently and no problems were reported.

I've got two pieces of timber which I need firmly bonded together (with nails but also with strong wood glue). Both timber pieces are 4 inch thick x 10 inch wide x 10 foot long.

I'm not a DIY-er. Any ideas of best glue to use to permanently bond them together strongly. When bonded, the wood will also be frequently left outside and exposed to elements so glue which is pretty resistance to rain would be good.

Thanks.

I have inherited some real estate last October. The land was vacant for over 10 months and by the time I got it the lawn was is a horrible condition. The St. Augustine Grass was infested with just about every problem one can find on the books: ants, weeds, chinch bug, gribs and thatch.

I have no experience but I am a fast learner and I would like to improve the lawn by myself. I have make couple of mistakes, by cutting the grass very short (1 inch) couple of weeks ago (now I have what appears to be brown dead circles on the lawn.

I would like to know if one has a calendar of what type of products to use, when is the best time to use the product. . . Something like a St. Augustine bible for Texas area.

Certain clothes comes out of the washer with spots on them. It almost looks like oil spots. Bleaching will not get rid of the spots. My machine is about 9 years old.
