The idiots who hung the chandalier in my place hung in NOT in the center of the floor were the table can sit out of the way. In order to get it directly under I have to move the table half way into the walk way so people will have to walk around it near the sliding glass door to get to the bedrooms. Any advice? Should I leave it looking off or try to rig it up some how?

You must have a linear eye and it's driving you crazy , right? You can buy extension chains or cords and swag the chandelier over onto a hook to be centered in the middle of the table. It may cause you to have to rewire and add more wire to the existing fixture, but at least you won't have to pull everything over and start from scratch.

Hope this helps.

There is a cap you can purchase at your local hardware store that will cover the hole that the wires come out of then you extend the wires over to wich ever side you want the chandelier to go to and put a hook to hold it up..but chances are the chandelier is very heavy so the people who installed it had to brace it to a ceiling truss..and they are usually spaced every 24 inches or less ..depending on city building codes and bi-laws..so if i where you i would start by going up in the attic and checking to see where the mounting is for the chandelier..and if you are not happy with the place they installed it why don't you call them back and have them move it to a more appropriate location..other wise you may have no choice but to leave it where it is..

Yes, I suggest the chain, as above. If there was already a box in the ceiling (where the wires were coming out from the previous fixture) then they probably assumed that that's where you wanted it, unless you requested otherwise. If they ran the wires to this location (and it was a recent job) then I would suggest that you call them back to fix the problem. They should not choose the location themselves without asking the homeowner where to place the fixture. If that's not the case, then you could also pay to have someone move the wiring to where it needs to be. That will probably give the best look in the long run, unless you are decorating either country or rustic, in which case the chain could add to the look.

Did you specify the center of the room? If you did then I'd have them come back and re-do it. If you had a pre-exhisting fixture there and you didn't specify the center of the room then they probably just hung it from that fixtures junction box like the one person mentioned.

As far as figuring out how to get your table centered DIRECTLY under your chandelier you could hang a plumb bob string from your chandelier over the table. So that the string ends and inch or so above the height of the table. Line the center of the table up with the plumb and WALLA! Once you're done just remove the plumb bob string from the chandelier.

When I built my house they had me specify on drawings where I wanted them. We ran and X from corner to coner in the room drawings then put the light symbol on the center of X, so it was specified as the dead center of the room. Otherwise you normally specify so far from one wall and so far from another wall. Then put the symbol there with dimension lines on the wiring diagram.

Is the chandelier adjustable? what i mean by this is, is it on a chain link that can be shortened/lengthened etc.? If so there is a solution!

We had the same problem in my parents house, but our light fixture was on a chain... so my dad screwed in a heavy duty hook in the ceiling center and hung the chain from there. though the wiring wasnt centered the actual lighting fixture was. Hope this helps!

It would take some doing but you can move the light to where you want it. It would involve moving the wires in the attic. The piece you cut out for the light junction box can be used to cover the hole in the ceiling. You would have to tape and mud the patch, but with sanding and painting you would never notice it.

I would recommend moving it. But get a professional to do it for you.
