What I know:
Located in USA
Measured across the "V" shape it's 240 volts
It's connected to a 60amp circuit breaker which takes up 4 spaces in my filled up breaker box.
It's unused at this time.

What I need to know:
-What type of appliances generally use this?
-What is the "L" shaped connector above the "V"
-Single phase or 2 phase (whatever that means)
-Can I use the same wiring to convert this to a 120 outlet and free up the space in my box to add new 120v circuits elsewhere?
-I have installed new breakers and added 120v circuits in the past, but I don't understand 220v and what "phase" means.

I really need more 120 circuits in my house.

It is my dream to start a homestead after I finish high school and college. I don't know much about nature, construction, or buying property, though, so I have a lot of questions.

1. Does the state of Michigan still permit people to build log cabins with no electricity or indoor plumbing?
2. Where can I find a very good farming book? I know how to plant things, but I do not know when to plant them, or what plants go best together. I also don't know much about herbs.
3. What sort of things would I need to drill a well?
4. How much property might I need to build a cabin large enough to house one adult, who may possibly marry and have a child, yet still be old-fashioned? Plus an outhouse, a well, a vegetable and herb garden, a workshop/shed, some fruit trees, and maybe an old junker to get to town.
5. How much money would I need to build all of that?
6. How long would it take to do build all of that?
7. What sort of thing might I study in college to further aid my venture?

I believe it is cotton. It was made by my mother 26 years ago and is not replaceable. I hate to ruin it. The reason that we never cleaned it before was because my wife kept it in a cedar chest inside a storage container. We have been using it lately just for decorations and now it looks soiled.

I'm looking for a reverse hand drill for my dad for christmas. Any suggestions? I'm trying to find one for under $50 if possible. Electric or battery, it doesn't matter.
