"Changing screen" is one name for the folding screen you describe. They are also called "privacy screens". Larger versions of these folding screens are also used as room dividers and are a favorite of many designers.

Screens used for changing clothing are not as common as they once were. Back in the day, when large families shared limited space, they were of practical use. They became somewhat fashionable when they were used in the movies of the 1920's through the 1940's. Although not as frequently, they are still used in the movies because they allow interaction between the characters when one or the other is changing clothes. They were also used to lend a sense of titilation to a scene in the days when movies were highly censored for suggestive behavior. In the most suggestive scenes, the actress was backlit while changing clothes which silhouetted her figure in the screen. It was very risque back in the day!

Even though the movies moved into new territory as time wore on, changing screens still had the same old effect. I remember Jane Fonda changing behind one in "Barefoot in the Park" in the 1960's. I also remember them being used frequently in the MASH television show.

I hope this information helps.

it took me a few minutes to try and understand the question along with the drawing, then (i hope ) i realized you are talking about a screen that is placed in a room, so that a lady or man could do their attire changing in the same room without exposing themselves to the member of the opposite sex. you really answered you're own question in a way, it's a changing screen.
