I prunned a large branch off of a birch tree, starting to saw from the top down. When I got about 3/4 of the way through the branch, it began to fall, splitting the main trunk of the tree with it. If you picture taking a lowercase "y" and pulling the left branch down, and splitting the bottom part, this is what happened. Only 1/4 of the diameter of the trunk is split, about half a foot down. I can't pull it back apart, but where the branch used to be I can see a gapping split across the face of the removed branch stub. Is this a big problem for the survival of the tree? Is there something I should do? I've seen people screw splits in trees back together, with wood screws, is this a good idea in this case? Let me know, it just happened...

I am confused by the + or - settings on the back of clocks. If your clock is running slow...do you turn the dial toward the + side...meaning you want to speed it up...or do you turn it toward the minus side...meaning that your clock is running slow?

I lived in a newly built terrace house once, and I could everything through the walls - could even hear the neighbour on the loo. Yes pretty awful - I think the building regulations are not good enough and should be stricter in order to prevent you having to share your home with next door. Even some older type houses have paper thin walls too. Also lived in an apartment and that was just awful, everything from dowstairs came up into our flat. Drove me mad. Does it drive anyone else mad? If you can't afford a detatched and have to settle for a semi and such like - what age/type/builders are the best houses and what are the worst for soundproofing. It is off white in color, in very good condition, has no holes anywhere, but has scratches that show the darker layer underneath.

I've had this cactus for about 6 months. It's green, in good condition, but I'm wondering if it's ever going to bloom by itself.

The foam inserts in the couch cushions have no life left in them, yet the couch itself is still in great shape. I live in NY, where would I purchase retail replacement foam?

Sanding them down? Plaster sheet over the top of the ceiling. Any idea on cost per square foot?

Most homes in the Boston area seem to have these horrible ceilings.

I'm fed up with having crispy towels that feel like sandpaper! Unless I tumble dry (expensive) my towels come out stiff as a board and dead rough! Not nice, especially for my little kidlets!
