How far away does the pool have to be from the house & fence? Are there any other limitations?

I have a Carrier A/C Unit that is about 5 years old and the coil (evaporator) is leaking (it's been checked by a contractor). It needs a new one so I am wondering if any HVAC pro out there can give me a ballpark figure of what it might cost. Thanks!

I have 4 gable vents. Two on the west side in each bedroom and one each on the south and north sides of the house.
I also have 4 of the newer rectangle roof vents and soffitt all around the house. The house is 3 years old with thick insulation (can't remember th R value). Should I install fans in all gables? If not where and why? Thanks

My wife refuses to buy a house if it doesn't have a separate laundry room upstairs...is this common? Is it that important to have a stupid separate laundry room upstairs?

We just purchased this house... had a problem with cigarette smoke smell. We had several recommendations to repaint--I decided to start small with the whole repainting project thing by starting with the guest bathroom. It had some nasty looking border in it, so I used some hot steamy water to help remove the border. Only did a small section-- well the border came up... so has a lot of the paint. Now I have this large area where the paint is now gone, it peeled off in big sheets! I can see the drywall, and when I wipe my hand over this drywall, to me, it smells like smoke. I had planned on wiping down these painted walls with TSP substitute, priming with Oil Based Kilz odorless primer, and painting another latex paint. Now what do I do!? Have I screwed up the walls? Should I wipe down everything (including the visible drywall or whatever) with the TSP? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Clueless!! I want to do this right!!! Help!!!!

I had to get a gas range for my new home, because it was too expensive to change the wiring to electric for the range. It would have involved tearing down an outside wall. I really wanted a smooth top stove, but alas I have a black gas one. All of my appliances are black and really pretty just always look "spotty'. I could really use some help. Thanks!

I will be moving into a rented apartment for the next year. We need to take care of pest control ourselves. I know the people who lived there before us weren't very tidy, but I dunno if they had pest problems in the past.

My question is, should I get the place sprayed now, or wait until I actually see a bug?

Btw, I'm pathologically afraid of roaches. I can stand other bugs though, including spiders. But I can't handle roaches, dead or alive.

I live in phoenix (specifically Laveen) and I have a brand new 1900 sq. ft. house that is built with 2x6 inch studs with a new AC unit (12.7 SEER) and we keep the inside temp 78 degrees. Also, we have a pool and the pump runs 6 hours a day. Our bill last month from SRP was $290, is that too high?
