I have two end tables that I recently purchased second hand. I'm not sure of the type of wood they are but they are currently stained a somewhat dark brown. I would like them to be a very dark brown almost black. I sanded one of the tables and tried using a product that's a stain and polyurethane in one. The finish came out horrible though. I used a stain sponge and it left lint in the finish. Also the color just isn't right. It's not dark enough. So now I'm thinking maybe a paint would be better. I just want the dark brown color to be consistent throughout. Any suggestions on what would be better for the type of look I want? Stain or paint and what type should I use?

I'm looking for a solid brass bar that hangs horizontally (so it looks kind of like a towel rack) across the center of a door inset with glass. It would attach to the wood frame and allow customers to push or pull the door open. We are restoring a building and are trying to retain the building's charm, thus the glass inset door. However, we don't want people to push on the glass. Where can I find one of these bars? I've searched everywhere.

Thanks!

My basement bedroom ceiling has old patches of dry damp and two holes where recessed lighting used to be (the wiring is gone). Does anyone have any ideas for fixing it up inexpensively? The rest of the room is new wood panelling which looks good.

We live in a manufactured home that is approximately 13 years old. We have just found out that we have a "50 year roof" but that 2 skylights were not installed properly and are causing leaks. We don't have the money to replace the roof and skylights and cannot get a loan to cover the expense. What can we do to minimize the damage of the leaks? Neither my husband or I have the skills for doing the reroof ourselves.

I live in zone 9 (central Florida), and my yard has full sun all day. I have few trees and no shade. I'd like to start developing my garden, but my thumbs are far from green. I'd like to feature some orange colored plants and flowers (my house is yellow with a red door; the orange would tie it together), but I need hardy plants that can tolerate the sun and heat and some neglect. Can anyone recommend any good plants? I'm looking for plants that have a more tropical feel than your basic marigolds or mums.

I was in the attic and partially lost my balance and almost stepped through the sheetrock. I now have a nice star crack in the ceiling of my bathoom. Luckily I didnt step all the way through. Any thoughts on easy repairs.

I don't know why I have a kitchen because I never use it (evil things happen when I try to), and it would get some use this way...and I could make some spare change. I was just wondering if I am supposed to bother my landlord over things such as this.

I was very disorganized, but now i have organized myself, i rearanged my furniture so that the mural was covered somewhat... but i am getting the chance to redecorate my room. The problem is i really don't know how... Do you have any idea's? Here is some things that may help you know a little of what i like.

enclosed part of concrete patio, floor is level. When it rains, water seeps in under the wall sill plate. I used a sealer when installing the walls. Also installed aluminum flashing. when the remaining patio is saturated with rain, water still works it's way in. Is there something I can use to seal between the flashing and concrete?

I am painting my living room... Is it better to paint your walls before you gloss your skirting boards and door frames or is it better to do it the other way round?
