Being very generic with the answer for bugs, a mixture of salt and baking soda will repell and or kill many types of bugs, also boric acid, also mothballs or flakes. Spray plants with dishwashing soap and water mix to get rid of aphids and the like.
The A/C question is even harder. Humidity makes warm seem hot. An airconditioner works by pulling water and heat out of your space. To make one would be much harder and more expensive than to buy one. If you have one and it is not doing the job, you can help by leaving it on all the time. Try not to add heat and water to the air, ( showers, baths, washing machines. dishwashers) ( leaving doors, windows open, etc.) use fans to move the air in the space. Cover windows to keep the sun out.
