I'm looking for a solid brass bar that hangs horizontally (so it looks kind of like a towel rack) across the center of a door inset with glass. It would attach to the wood frame and allow customers to push or pull the door open. We are restoring a building and are trying to retain the building's charm, thus the glass inset door. However, we don't want people to push on the glass. Where can I find one of these bars? I've searched everywhere.

Thanks!

If I just knew what it was called that would help too.

It is called a crash bar. Go to your local commercial building supply company and they can order one for you. In my area you would go to a place called Renter Lumber (Toledo, OH). In your area look for the place builders go.

Usually it is hollow steel tube and only coated with brass for strength.

You could get some pipe and construct the bar. Then take it to a plating company in your area. There should be one somewhere close or you could mail it to them. Regular pluming or electrical pipe should work.
