I say paint your walls the green color you like...something kind of bright. Then go to a fabric store and buy a few yards of pink and a few yards of purple thin, sheer fabric. You can staple gun the fabric to your ceiling so it hags over your bed to look "princessy".
Since this fabric is cheap, you can buy extra and make panel curtains...they're really easy.

Your room will look bright, airy, and funky.

I did this in college for really cheap and it looked cool...everyone loved it.

I like some of the ideas given by others here. I definitely agree with the minimalist approach since it removes clutter and gives the room a clean, open, organized and modern look. I personally find rooms with less clutter more functional in that you can focus less on the junk and more on enjoying your surroundings. Painting the room a brighter color will make the space appear larger. Even if the room is already big, it gives the space an "airy" feel. You can accent the room with your other favorite colors that you mentioned. Find a rug, comforter and./or throw pillows that incorporate those colors. Lighting is another aspect you can't ignore. Replace old boring light fixtures with something bright and new like halogen lights. If you don't light those, you can always look for floor lamps to go in the corners (you might want to consider a pair).

Here are some other ideas you might like:

1. Get a nice reclining chair to accent the room. This gives the space a cozy feel.
2. Personalize the room with pictures. Buy different size and style frames and create a picture wall by arranging them asymetrically with prints of your choice. Get a camera and take some interesting shots of scenery, friends, family, etc.
3. If you haven't already, rearrange the furniture so that it's not all "boxy" feeling. Move the bed so that it's not flat against the wall, but angled in front of a corner. Space may be an issue here, depending on the room.
4. Change the window treatments. This can really add to the appeal of the room.
5. De-clutter! Go to a store that specializes in creative storage. Make it visually appealing.
6. If possible, expose the hardwood floors if you have them.

Hopefully, some of these ideas may be of interest to you. Good luck!

You could paint each wall a different color as well as the ceiling the fifth color sort of like what they did on the "Friends" show. That gives a funky, fun look. I would keep the ceiling either yellow or blue though. Blue on the ceiling is subconsciously ok because the sky is blue. Yellow is a light color and also acceptable because it won't make the room seem smaller like purple or green would. Or you could use one of the colors as a base color and paint a glaze of the others over it in a faux technique. It takes a little practice but is worth the effort. Some of the big box home centers have how-to clinics. Also look in magazines, fabric stores etc for inspiration. I will sometime choose a rug that I like and pull out the shades of color I like from that. Also use lots of different textures in fabrics. Good luck!

Pick up a few color strips in your favorite colors
mentioned. See which you like the best. This
way you can look at the different wall paper and
borders they offer to give you some insight on
what you'd like while looking at paint colors.
Than you can find a few other items that will
accent your room very funky after you paint.
Don't forget your window could have some lovely
drapes with purple and yellow flowers in it, to really
give it that updated look. Go with a friend who can
assist you with a few color suggestions so your
more settled with your new theme. Enjoy your room.
Good for you for updating.
