I really don't know much about plants, but I adopted this pretty plant from my mom's collection and it was a little dusty so I decided to clean its leaves with olive oil.... is this a bad thing to do?

Personally, I love and live in the Pacific Northwest. I think it's the best of all worlds. 2 hours to the coast or the mountains. No hurricanes, small earthquakes and the mountain hasn't had a large eruption since I was 5. Oh, and yes I love rain. It makes everything smell fresh and clean.

It is the first year we've had them. We have a lot of lilies, they are being destroyed by these beetles. I do not wish to put any chemicals down because I have a lot of hummingbirds and beneficial bees and such in my yard. Can anyone help me rid my lilies of these evil little bugs? Is there a natural solution??

i need advise on a transplanted barlett pear tree. It is about 18 feet tall and had to be moved from where it was originally planted about 2 to 3 years ago. After the transplant it has been watered 2x a day by filling a mote that is around the base of the tree. however the leaves are turning yellow. is that a sign of shock or over watering? Is there a fertilizer or root hermone I should give it? The transplant took place around the end of June. Please advise

I am a painter mostly, but would be willing to learn a creative trade (e.g. tile making, art / window screens, and the like) to be able to work with architects - preferrably on large projects that in some way allow for the highlight or showcase of the less "architectural", more artistic pieces.
(FYI: I would prefer posting this in Arts & Humanities, as well as Home & Garden but Y!Q does not allow!)

Are Dyson vacuums really as wonderful as they're made out to be on television? I understand it's all part of a marketing strategy, but does anyone who owns a Dyson vacuum feel that they're any better than traditional vacuums? I know Dysons cost an arm and a leg, so I'm a little curious as to how well they work before I go out and purchase one.

I have a pair of jeans that have been bleached in some parts.... I was wondering what would happen if I was to put dye on it. Like Rit or something... I've tried calling different cleaners, but I couldn't find one with a good answer!

Our house got lots of rain in the past two weeks. We thought we didn't get it in our finished basement, but the room started smelling bad. We now realize that a small amount of water must have come through behind the drywall and entered the edge of the carpet on one side of the room.

Is it time to trash the carpet, or should we try to fix it (or have a professional carpet cleaner come) before we have it replaced?

(If new carpet is needed, I assume that I'll need to break down the drywall and get out any remaining undeen water or moisture before any new carpeting comes in.)

Thanks.

(If you need more info to answer, please let me know. I'll add it.)
